The Federal Republic becomes a partner in the Marshall Plan
On 15 December 1949 the Federal Republic becomes a fully entitled partner in the Marshall Plan – the United States’ reconstruction plan for Europe promulgated in 1947. This represents the first international accord concluded by the government under Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer (CDU). The Federal Republic receives an allocation of 1.036 billion German marks in aid from the equivalent value fund of the Marshall Plan. Of that amount, 600 million German marks are made available for immediate investment.
