Start of the Russo-polish war

After the end of the First World War, President Józef Pilsudski, the „Marshal of Poland“, is determined to re-establish his newly reconstituted country in its former territorial borders of 1772. On 25 April 1920, the Russo-Polish War begins with an advance by Polish troops on Kiev. After fluctuating combat the Poles, with French support, will decisively defeat the „Red Army“ on 16 August 1920 („miracle on the Vistula“). In the Riga Peace Accord of 18 March 1920, the eastern border of Poland is pushed ca. 124 mi. farther to the east.
