Spanish Popular Front’s electoral victory

On 16 February 1936 the Popular Front –  an alliance of Republicans, Socialists, Communists and labour leaders – emerge as victors from Spain’s parliamentary elections. The new head of government is Manuel Azaña who will also take over the office of President from Niceto Alcalá Zamora.
