Red Baron shot down

On 21 April 1918, the fire-red biplane – a Fokker DR.I – of German fighter pilot Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen is shot down near Vaux-sur-Somme. With 80 kills, von Richthofen, who dies in the crash, had been the most successful fighter pilot of the First World War. The „Red Baron“ had been both respected and feared by his opponents.
