Jewish World Congress demands homeland for the Jewish people
Founded the previous year, the „Jewish World Congress“ calls, on 11 August 1937, for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, a country that has been under British mandate since 1920. However, Palestinian Arabs insist on national independence. They consider this their right under the statutes of the League of Nations. Recently the British had already presented a partitioning plan for the country, but both parties to the conflict reject the idea.
