IAEA

On 4 December 1954 the General Assembly of the United Nations passes Resolution 810(IX) on the establishment of an international authority to monitor the peaceful use of atomic energy. It results from a proposal by American President Dwight D. Eisenhower which he made in his „Atoms for Peace“ speech on 8 December 1953. In 1957 the „International Atomic Energy Agency“ (IAEA) will begin its work as an independent sub-organisation of the UN.
