Hitler and Mussolini plan major offensive

During a meeting at the Berghof residence near Berchtesgaden, Adolf Hitler and the Italian “Duce” Benito Mussolini make arrangements for a major offensive in the Mediterranean region. First of all, the strategically important British air and naval base at Malta will be captured. Then the „Africa Corps“ is to advance all the way from Libya to Egypt.

In the following weeks, German and Italian troops under the supreme command of General Erwin Rommel will succeed in pushing the Eighth British Army back to within 62 miles of Alexandria (El Alamein position). However, the plan to capture Malta has to be abandoned.
