None of the seven candidates was able to acquire the requisite majority of votes to win the Reich presidential elections on 29 March 1925. After that, on 8 April, the German National Peoples’ Party (DNVP), the Bavarian Peoples’ Party (BVP), the German Peoples’ Party (DVP), and the Bavarian Farmers’ League join together in a „Reich Bloc“ to choose their common candidate for the second round of elections, former General Field Marshall Paul von Hindenburg (no party affiliation), the „victor of the Battle of Tannenberg“ (1914). With 48.3 % of all votes, von Hindenburg is elected on 26 April as the new Reich President and successor to Friedrich Ebert (SPD).
