Germany world champion in football
Hardly anyone is counting on a German victory when the 11-man National Football Team under Coach Sepp Herberger competes against heavily-favoured Hungary in the finals of the world championship on 4 July 1954 in Bern. Immediately the German team has to face two goals against it in the first eight minutes of play. Nevertheless by half-time it manages to tie the score. In a second half nearly unsurpassed in suspense Helmut Rahn scores the point for a 3 to 2 win in the 84th minute of play. The Germans react with boundless elation. Fifty years later a film about the „Miracle of Bern“ will still attract 3.6 million viewers into German cinemas.
