Founding of the DFG

On 2 August 1951, the „German Scientific Mutual Assistance Association“ and the „German Research Council“, both founded in 1949, merges to become the „German Research Group“ (DFG). The DFG’s central mission consists of providing financial support for research projects, of advising scientific and economic policy makers and of advancing scientific cooperation.
