„The resurgence“ - GDR propaganda against the Western integration of the Federal Republic: Federal Chancellor Adenauer as a second Hitler

On 15 January 1951 Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer (CDU) rejects the suggestion by GDR prime minister Otto Grotewohl to form an „All-German Consultative Council“ devoted to bringing about negotiations toward unifying the two German states. Instead, Adenauer calls for first creating preconditions to bring about free elections in the GDR. Grotewohl’s approach, under the motto „Germans at one table“, was intended to counteract the Western integration and „re-armament“ of the Federal Republic of Germany pushed by Adenauer.
